Main nave ceiling Cathedral
As a result of detached plaster fragments on the nave, further investigations on the state of the plasters of the entire upper part of the Cathedral were necessary, which revealed a situation of widespread deterioration of the same by finding many fractures, even deep ones, with large raised areas and extensive spider web micro-cracks.
The decorated stucco ribs also showed signs of deterioration and detachment from the wall support.
The heraldic coats of arms located in the center of the vaults also showed worrying vertical cracks that compromised their stability.
The restoration included the preservation and consolidation of the existing plaster, stucco and stone coats of arms, resulting in a color restoration similar to the existing, both of the monochrome background of the vault and walls as well as the stucco and marble parts. The cleaning and lime glazing were also extended to the side aisles for homogeneity of the result.
The operational phase involved the erection of a scaffold tower and application of support bandages at the detachments, consolidation of plasters with mortar injections, and application of color glazes similar to the originals.
