St.Anastasia Compass

The proposed intervention stems from the need to make the entrance easier and more functional for the many visitors who daily access the Basilica of St. Anastasia in Verona.

The reasons for proposing the replacement of the previous compass basically were the need to make the entrance brighter and allow visual control, even of the celebrants, of the main entry point, increase the handling space behind the two wooden openings of the large right wing of the façade door, and allow the new doors to be opened in both directions, so as to facilitate especially the way of exodus to the exit also for safety reasons. The realized compass door is in height and width similar in size to the previous one, while the depth is increased to allow the glass double-leaf door to open in the two directions (inside/outside) and to have adequate space to move between the compass door and the wooden entrance portal.

Structurally, both the compass and the ramp were made of steel tubing resting on the Basilica floor in order to create a solid self-supporting structure and to be able to safely anchor the glass double-leaf access door.

The intervention also included the construction of a new ticket office with more generous dimensions to accommodate the client's requests and with material and color references to the new compass.
